Where Now Our Bright Stars?

Where now our bright stars in this becalmed sky?

Where too the promised moon base to sooth fear,

Of nuclear warfare. And tell me why,

Did NASA’s legacy begin to veer,

On a safe trajectory, all robot

Explorers and cut funds? I’d like to know.

We look to space tourism and care not,

For bygone heroes and “to boldly go”,

Till branding lies round Earth’s human shores,

And the stars, obscured by the ad man’s cry,

Mean little more than their physical laws,

Not places to visit, new skies to fly.

But to shun the heavens is to leave us prone,

To fates that might befall man’s only home.
